Finding Nemo Evaluation

Finding Nemo is the first of two animations i will be evaluation for my research on underwater soundscapes, as it is set entirely underwater more specifically the open ocean which is great for what i am trying to achieve with my final product.

The main things i picked up from the 42 minutes i watched was the sound effects used to create this underwater soundscape the ones that stuck out the most to me,where the squelching of the water to match the movements of the clown fish and all the fish moving above and below him.

An other sound that impressed me was the flickering of the fins in the water which was done in so much detail at it is on every fin flap for nemo, As will be heard in this video above like my next point in the sound that stood out for me was when nemo swam out to the boat in the ocean and tapped the bottom of the boat and the impacted sounded exactly like a bass drum being hit.

The scene that nemo has been put in the fish tank in the dentist office the sounds coming from inside the tank i.e. the filter ,air rock (volcano) and the general movement of the fish in the tank was very accurate as they sounded exactly like my very own fish tank.

In a whole i felt that Finding Nemo made a better projection of an underwater soundscape that the documentary The Dangerous Sea for the simple point that it sounded more realistic and less boxy and fussy,Which made it a more enjoyable viewing experience I know there is many factors between the two as one is a animation and the other a factual documentary and not based on the sound.Other factors are there is 8 years between them and technology has greatly improved in this time but it dose not change the fact that Finding Nemo sounded more realistic that the actual documentary itself.
